Starter motor

I have a 1971, 125hp evinrude motor. The stater motor turns on but does not engage the flywheel. The stater motor just spins. Can somebody please help. Thank you.

Put some lube on the starter gear shaft. WD-40 will do.

put your hand on the motor part of the starter,well away from the drive and flywheel.<br />Have some one crank the engine.If you don't feel the flex or surge,boost the battery,<br />still the same,rebuild the starter.<br />DHP

Are there rebuild kits for such an old motor. The brand of the starter motor is a Prestolite. Also would there be a replacement for the starter motor.

jorge22,<br />I do not know of rebuild kits,but someone in your area must rebuild starters and alternators for cars and trucks.These are the guys to talk to.<br />DHP
