I have read some posts on the forum regarding starters that do not start.
I WILL clean all connections etc, but just in case there is another problem....this is what's happening.

Motor used to start first time no problem. Sat one month then nothing but a buzz and or click from starter. No starter movement. Changed starter - no change. Changed solenoid - no change.

Still just get a single click or perhaps 2 rapid clicks when I turn the key.
And sometimes nothing at all !!

Is good cleaning of all connections needed or does this sound like something else.

Thanks for your patience!!

Sounds like bad connections or possibly a discharged battery.

There is no fuse in the main battery cable. Check all the battery cables at both ends for any sign of corrosion. They can corrode inside where you can't see it. You can also try jumper cables from the battery pos side directly to the starter relay and another from the neg side to ground on the motor.

If it comes down to being your battery discharged you can have it recharged and checked for a dead cell. If both of those are good I would do a draw test on all the electronics on your boat to make sure they are within your alternator operating range and to make sure nothing is staying on after you shut everything off cause that will kill your battery also.

Re: Starter not starting force 125

Thank you for all of your help. It turned out to be a partly discharged battery.
I tried the jumper cables from the battery pos to the solenoid pos terminal and the neg to the starter neg, and hey presto the starter turned but very slowly.
So I went to get a new battery, but asked to get it tested first and it turns out it was good and needed charging.

I thought the battery was good purely because it had been the last time i had used it and since had been connected to a coleman 5am solar trickle charger.
So lesson learned. I bought a new starter and solenoid , when I didn't have to but at least now I have spares.
