I have a reman Powerhead with a lot of issues.. OBR, where the Powerhead came from, somehow managed to mix up the #1 and 2 cylinder Pistons. They aren't running right for nothing, anyway in the midst of testing there was a loud pop while trying to start the motor, the entire flywheel cover cracked in half.. Scared me sh*tless. Does this mean I need a new starter or did they just put it on too tight?

I will when I pick it up. The shop put on another used one and it hasn't done that since. It just snapped while starting; the starter itself never quit working.

I've just never heard of a flywheel cover
Snapping like it did just starting the engine. It was a real nasty slice down in the middle

I will. Might be a while, won't have the boat for at least 2-3 'more weeks as now they have to send the Powerhead to OBR where the reman came from since my top two Pistons are flipped. Port in starboard and vise Versa. I had called Evinrude myself and said its not the starter on its last leg, but because my flywheel is missing teeth, (ordered a new one yesterday.) it could have caused a lot of unnecessary pressure build up when it tried to start.

So I went to pick the boat up yesterday, they already tossed the cover that snapped. They gave me a used one for free. Said it was unusual pressure from flywheel missing teeth and starter. Put a used flywheel that i looked at on the motor, which had all its teeth, and when I start the motor the grinding is still there, they said my starter bendix is bent a little. This is gonna sound pretty
Dumb but is that within the starter motor? Like can I buy a new starter motor and if the bendix was the issue will this most likely fix it if my flywheel has all its teeth now? Or am I looking for a different part

Forgot about this forum, replaced the starter(which was definitely bad) and all is well with that area for now.
