starter pinion gear ?

so i just installed a new pinion gear in the starter because the old one was so worn out that it wouldnt even turn the flywheel,and after starting the motor on muffs once this is what the new one looks like is this normal wear or are the teeth on the flywheel worn down also??

From the gear pattern wear on both drives and also the first picture, it appears that the starter is mounted at a slight angle, not paralell to the motor crankshaft. This places excess stress on a smaller portion of each gear tooth.

Check the lower starter mount, see if it may be moved or shimmed out from the motor just enough to align the starter correctly.

Are the mount holes slotted to allow for shims and adjustment

You got the wrong starter drive, or the flywheel has been changed and the ring gear is wrong. They need to mesh reasonably. Looks like you're getting about 10%.
