Thanks for reading...
I have a 1996 3.0 135hp Alpha 1. Have been running it alot with no problems. Ran about 4 hours yesterday with tube and board w/ lots of start stop shut off kind of recreation. Finally started boat to go home and the starter spins with a sound like its full of gravel. The engine does not turn over. I got home and pulled the starter. Hooked up to battery with jumper cables and the little gear that pops in and out (bendix?) jumps out and the starter spins like crazy. No problem. The teeth on the flywheel are a little shiny from where it looks to me like the bendix is not engaging and just spinning on the edge of the flywheel gears. I sprayed some lubricant in the bendix shaft and put the starter back in the boat thinking that I had knocked the bendix loose from being stuck. It does the same thing. Could it be the battery not getting it enough juice through the wiring even though it got enough juice through jumper cables? I didn't think it was the solenoid because the bendix would pop out when the starter spun. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jon

Re: Starter Problem....Please Help!!!

I have had that same exact problem with my car once. The battery was low on juice.
