I have an old 1986 OMC seadrive 225hp. The starter continues to crank only after the engine starts? I would think the soleniod is bad but this occurs only after the engine starts.
I agree weak batteries and solenoids can cause funny things to happen!!! check your voltage should be 12.6!!! if that doesn't do it Ignition switch can also be going bad!!
Is there grease on the shaft to the gear? If that gets a build up of garbage it tends to make that hang up....... clean the shaft undr the spring and lightly oil it.
