Starter problems with Envirude 60hp

I just replaced the solenoid because the starter would not work unless jumped directly from the battery. Problem now is that the starter continues to run and run and will not stop until the power is disconnected. Do I have a bad solenoid or is there something that else that I should look at? Thanks

Could be a solenoid stuck or could be the starter switch in the ignition.

Details of the "starter would not work" period might tell us.

Thanks, the switch seems to be working ok, but I need to check and see. A couple times when 1st engaged it was fine but then the starter stayed on until disconnected. Is there a relay inside the solenoid that could be faulty and causing this problem?

Where do you have to disconnect it, battery, solenoid. What do you disconnect, the battery cable, wire to solenoid?

I disconnected at the battery. I could try at the solenoid. This would isolate the problem. You think so?
