2006 50 HP Mercury Outboard Model # 1050412FD The starter motor will not stop turning. I disconnected the ignition switch and it still turns. I had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop. What is the problen and how do I fix it?

Re: Starter Question

My first guess would be a stuck starter solenoid. Ohm it out with the engine off, battery disconnected. If it's zero ohms there's your problem.

Re: Starter Question

Definately starter solenoid. It may ohm out fine...but I have seen them physically break internally, not sure which way yours is mounted. Sometimes the spring inside breaks or the contacts have welded themselves together from the arcing current. Should be cheap/easy to fix though.
