This is probably a no brainer for a lot of you. On a 93 Evinrude 50 hp, the starter is spinning but not rising to the flywheel. Is there an easy answer or is the starter shot? Thanks, Granpa

Re: Starter question

is the battery up in charge?
If so, try lubing the shaft that the starter drive rides on. Use light engine oil or WD-40

Re: Starter question

Wow! Ask the schemer a question and you get an answer that even granpa can understand. Without giving away my mechanical skills, I'll tell you that a picture is worth more than a thousand words. Thanks for the the outstanding help. Granpa

Re: Starter question

(Great pic.)

Clean and tighten all electrical connections in the starter circuit and at the battery, and fully charge the battery. Lightly oil the shaft, as indicated. If the gear doesn't engage after that, it may be time for a rebuild --possible the armature isn't spinning fast enough, or the bendix gear itself needs repair.

Re: Starter question

Oldboat, thanks for the additional suggestions. So far the lube hasn't taken. As soon as the temp drops down to a breathable level, I'll go out and try cleaning the connections. Granpa
