Starter questions

Im no expert on boats, so when the shop I took a starter to to have rebuilt asked me if it spun clockwise or counter clockwise I didn't have an answer for them. So that got me wondering which is it? The shop works on boats and said they would figure it out. The engine that I have is an 1988 OMC 5.0L. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's the same rotation as a auto engine, by marine terms from the rear it is LH, but in automotive terms from the front it's RH. Any good starter shop should be able to simply look at the champfer on the teeth of the bendix gear and know what the rotation is--Bob
