I had a friend on the boat with me the other day and he mentioned that when I started the boat he could hear that the bendix was dry and needs to be lubricated. I am not sure, however, I believe that I need to remove the starter for this. I have never done this so I am wondering if anyone can pass on how to remove it and lube the bendix. What tyope of product to use etc.

Thanx

Re: Starter Removal?

Bugup, It is likely you will need to remove the starter to lubricate the bendix. On my '88 4.3LX, there are two verticle bolts and a front strap that hold the starter to the block. You need to use a thin walled 9/16" socket wrench to remove the bolts and a 1/2" socket wrench to remove the strap. Disconnect the battery before you start work, or you may start an electrical fire.

Any ideas on the best product to lube the bendix with? If I am going to have it all apart I want to use the best stuff.

A Bendix Usually doesn't need to be Relubed,........

Replacement is the Usual Path for a Bad Bendix.........
