i re-hooked up my 9.9 merc 2004 remote steer motor to the boat - hooked up the batteries - then went to connect the positive battery cable to the starter selenoid and the the battery ground to the motor grounding bolt. i put the positive side on the selenoid first and the starter engaged - it just kept spinning -

my thoughts are that I have a wire crossed or the ignition is on, but the harness from the boat is not connected to the engine harness - i don't see a crossed wire - is it safe to assume i should change the selenoid - or is there something else to look for

thx for any help.

Disconnect the small wire(s) on the solenoid and try again. If it still does it then the solenoid is stuck closed. If not then your start button is defective.

thx bhile...
all the 'small wires' on both bolts on the selenoid - or just the small wires on the same bolt the battery lead goes on... or ... just the small wires on the bolt that the battery lead is NOT on

thx.
