starter solenoid on 260 mercruiser

where is the proper location of the starter slave solenoid on a 260 mercruiser with points ignition. i am replacing the one on my boat and the current one is just hanging by the wires on the back of the engine by the starter.

Do you have the Mercruiser service manual for you engine?

If not, go up to the Adult section and download it.

i have downloaded them and they are very vague regarding the slave solenoid location.
