starter solenoid prblems

When I tried to start my SearRay this year, I was met with the distinctive clicking of an old or worn solenoid. Hoping for the best, I replaced the slave solenoid, but I'm still getting the clicking.

I guess I need to replace the starter solenoid (or maybe the whole starter), but I was wondering if you guys know of any other problem that would produce that click sound. It's one loud click followed by softer clicks for as long as the ignition is trying to fire.
Is there any way to tell if it's the starter or something else?

Also any tips on replacing the starter with out having to remove the engine would be a bonus!

Check/replace battery cables....have the batteries charged and load tested. Sounds like it's not able to pass the current. Could be the starter, locked up motor, start with the weakest links.....

Bad connection, weak battery...

What size Sea Ray do you have? You shouldn't have to remove the engine to get the starter off. Can you get your arm/hand under the starter and reach the bolts?

I agree check the connections first before pulling the starter. Also check the battery. Had one one time that read good voltage, but had a weak cell and wouldn't crank the starter. Pull the battery out of the car for a minute and try it and see if it will crank after cleaning the connections.

Sounds like a low volatge problem and not a bad part. Check your battery and connections
