Starter Solenoid

1995 Ford OMC 5.0 502APHUE 195 Sundowner

My starter is fine but solenoid on it is jacked up. It won't allow me to tighten the cable all the way down. It will get tight to a certain point but loosens back up and doesn't make good contact. Can I replace the solenoid and not the starter? Or are they a match set?

you can swap solenoids. easiest way is to find your local starter and alternator shop. make sure you tell them its a marine unit.

Thanks. I ended up changing the whole starter and solenoid unit. I plan to have the original refurbished and hanging on to it or selling it.
