My 2000 Crownline 266 br, 7.4 mpi L29 would not start the other day. I took a hammer and banged the starter and the boat started! I started the boat several (4-5) times since then with no issues.

Questions:

is my problem the starter or solenoid or both?

how long can I operate like this?

what is the part number and where can I get anew starter? Are rebuilt one ok to use?

any other useful ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you

Answers to Questions:

>>> Might be the electrical connections at the starter . . . check/clean those

how long can I operate like this?
>>> As long as the hammer keeps doing the trick

what is the part number and where can I get a new starter? Are rebuilt one ok to use?
>>> See if you can find the real problem, else you will want to get the serial number of the engine and look up the part number of the starter using online sites, such as iBoats.com :) You may be better off getting a new starter rather than a rebuilt one.

any other useful ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
>>> If you do get a new starter, make sure it is specifically for marine applications (not automotive) Look for 'SAE J1171' compliance
