I put a battery on and it cranked. I stopped and cranked it again with no response what so ever (no clicking no nothing). It is a 50 force us marine motor w electic start. I dont know if i blew a fuse or what, does anyone know if this would be the problem orwhere the fuses are located. I found two little black boxes one on the wiring to the battery and one in the motor (breaker reset) i think if i open these thats where they may be. Has anyone had this problem? I dont know the year model guessing it is mid 80's. I think that a fuse blew but im not sure what to check. I pressed the two resets in the little black boxes and it doesnt seem to have done anything. The starter doesnt show to be getting electricity with the volt meter, but the rest of the motor does. It was running just fine. I turned the motor off, now i dont get anything. Its something to do with the electronics im sure. The battery and starter are good considering the starter cranked it the time before and the battery was out of my truck. thanks for any input. I just want some ideas like the neutral start switch or something. Im gonna work on it soon.

Re: Starter wont crank

you need to post in the Force/Chrysler section. You also need to list the year and H.P. or model #.

check the neutral safety switch. It is located next to the linkage on the side of the carb.

Re: Starter wont crank

There should be two leads on the neutral interlock switch. Put a volt meter lead on both interlock switch leads on DC volt range. What do you read in the start position. You may need someone to turn the key for you when looking at the meter. If it reads 12 volts it is not engaging correctly and the voltage is not getting to the starter relay. If the voltage is near zero hook one lead to ground and the other to either of the interlock switch leads what do you read now.

If your interlock switch is working correctly the small post on the starter relay ( probably a yellow and gray wire) should read 12 volts to ground. I am not sure about force but I believe if the circuit breaker fails you will still be able to get the starter to spin however you wont get power to the ignition system.

Re: Starter wont crank

Alright ya'll situation has been resolved. I ended up having to put the boat practically in reverse in order to get the neutral start switch to turn off. Simple as pie. Thanks for all of you helpfull insights.
