You have a poor connection in the high current circuit for your starter, Okam.

Remove, clean and reattach all large wire connections, with special attention to the battery ground cable to engine block connection.

Good luck. :)

okam ,You can try jumping the large leads of the solenoid and see if starter engages.BE Careful around flywheel when performing. Also insure the grounds attached to the engine block are clean and tight as JB suggested.Insure that the starter bedix shaft is lubricated and not causing the bendix to stick.

OKAM,

You should try to re-read JB's post. You need to check inch by inch your positive and negative cables. Pull on the ends to make sure they are firmly attached. Any corrosion or loose ends will cause a slow spin starter. Basically not enough voltage. Even if the starter will spin, you may not have enough juice to charge the powerpack.
