starter

I know this sounds dumb but the nut on top of the starter that holds the drive gear on that engages the fly wheel on my 1996 75 force is it a right hand thread or left can't tell on mine but it doesn't want to break loose either way and i didn't want to put to much pressure on it till i was sure. Any ideas as how to break it lose?Think i may need a impact wrench to break it loose.

It is a right hand deformed thread nut so yes, it is on very tight. A hand wrench can do it and impact may without holding the shaft, but more than likely you will need to grab the motor shaft with something.

If your starter is like mine (1998) put a there is a spot on the bottom of gear to put a wrench on, it should come off with no problem. I did mine on the workbench which made it easyer, and if i am not mistaken it was a standard righty tighty lefty loosey. The starter spins counter clockwise which spins the motor clockwise. That being the case there is always pressure to keep the nut tight if you catch my drift.

Yes there is a place to put a wrench on the bottom but that sucker is tight thanks guy's for the help never hurts to make sure, eazzy to ask than have to buy another to replace the one you break. again THANKS

The normal way is to place the armature in specially shaped soft vice jaws ...

Who said anything about me being normal HA sure not my wife:facepalm: Thanks for the info fucawi it came right off with a small impact wrench. On to the next project. EAZZY

Yes the soft jaw vice is more for when you are overhauling and have the thing dismantled ..remember no grease .( it sticks) no petrol ( it rusts ) just parafin or wd 40 which is by the way 90 % parafin and 10% 10 sae oil ....make you own !!!!1
