Starting 1968 Holiday Restoration w/pics

I just got this a week ago. So far i was able to get the engine running though it doesn't idle. Will have to rebuild the carb. Will be restoring the whole thing,,or attempt to. This is my first boat so will see how i do. I like posting pics & videos so im pretty sure it will be documented. I am freaking excited!!!

Ok After finding out the engine runs i checked the hydraulics. & yes they dont work. I figured something would be wrong, why would somebody disconnect the cylinders & tie the out drive to the transom, which by the way i think it weakened it,,but thats another problem I will address later. So I bypassed the solenoid by grounding the pump & supplying power to the green wire & then the Blue wire on the pump. The only action I got was the wires heating up. The pump is shorted!! I removed the pump & disassembled the motor & notice the rust, worn out brushes. It Looks Like I need another Pump. BUT my question is can install a better pump instead? Or do i have to get an original pump? I was thinking something like pic9. ANy suggestions or opinions on this?

Azlo you may want to start a restoration thread over in the restortion forum. Dont get me wrong we love restos but so do alot of other guys on the board who dont make it down to the Starcraft sub basement . The outdrive question you may want to ask in the I/O forum as those guys tend to stay in their area as well .
