You have to connect + power to the switch box (red terminal should be connected all the time and white) and ground the whole motor, you also have to advance the throttle lever above the cable attachments on the left side and use the manual choke;
this is not a good idea you should connect some controls and use a set of muffs on the waterpickup on the lower unit connected to a water hose.
It's possible that you've ruined the rectifier and or switchbox already.
