I recently aquired an LD 10 S 1965 5 HP Johnson (rope start) without any kind of operator manual. I need help with the optimum starting and operating procedure (throttle position, choke usage, mixture). I assume the mixture is set at high power but going leaner until it stutters, then go richer until it smoothes out - then leave it alone after that unless you move to a location with different elevation. If that is incorrect, let me know.
Is the minimum throttle position a complete shut off or a minimum RPM positiion?

There are a few things you should do before trying to start it.------Remove flywheel and check the ignition coils for cracks.------They are either cracked or a new set has already been installed.-----Replace the water pump impeller too.
