Last weekend i had my boat out for the first time and i had some problems starting it when cold.It is a 1990 Johnson 150 with new plugs , stator, powerpack, battery. I really think im doing something out of sequence for a cold start. This ignition has the push key choke and im not sure how to engage it? Just push it once ? hold it? what? Also what about throttle placement.? One the engine was warm i had no problems for the entire day. Just when it was cold. Thanks for any help.

Re: starting instructions

Dennis

Pump up the fuel bulb until firm. Turn ignition switch to on(Not Start). Raise fast idle lever about 1/3 of the way up, Push and hold the key in for a count of 5 and then crank it over while continuing to hold the key in. When it starts, let out on the key. You may have to bump the key in briefly to keep it running for a moment...
