Starting issue

Hi,
Recently purchased an circa 1980 Mako with an Evinrude 150. Have done some work on it - new hydro pump, bilge pump and new battery. My problem is that when I try to start it with everything connected nothing works. If I connect the main cables to batt then engine/trim and tilt work fine. If I re-connect everything then everything works(trim/tilt gps radio) but as soon as I try to start it kills everything again. I've run through this a few times so I'm guessing some kind of short but why would it only happen when trying to start? In the process of trying to figure out what set of wires is causing the issue. If anybody has a suggestion I'd appreciate.

you electronics, are protected by a low voltage cut out. then starting the starter is drawing the current, dropping the voltage. to run that much electronics, you need 2 batteries, one starting and one deep cycle. with a battery package for charging.

Thanks tashasdaddy. I not sure I understand though. Having the electronics hooked to the batt causes no start, no trim/tilt and no electronics. Removing electronics allows trim/tilt and start. Adding electronics back allows electronics and trim/tilt to work but if I try to start (it won't) everything is dead again until I unhook electronics.

My plan was to add a second batt but I guess the part I don't understand is why when the electronics are hooked up (not turned on) I cannot start the engine. I'd appreciate if you can explain how the start is being stifled.

something is not connected correctly. i miss read, i thought the electronics were shutting down. you may have a dead cell in the battery, and it's draining. take the battery to auto parts they load test for free. i lke a 1150 CCa trojan starting battery, and then the trojan deep cycle for electronics, and trolling.

It is a brand new batt. It is charged too.

they cable have to be tight, put the motor cable on first, the the other. you should only have 2 connectors each battery post. engine and accessories to the fuse block .

Wow those winds down in Fla must have kept you in port for quite some time tashasdaddy but you really need to lay off the Jack. Thanks anyway. I'll figure it out.
