Hi All,

I have been a boater for a long time and a lurker on here for about 2 years. I have run into a problem that I can't find, and the "adults only" section only partially helped.

Here it goes:

2002 Chaparral, 4.3 Merc, Alpha One

While installing a new battery, I dropped the positive cable across the negative terminal. After some sparks and me moving faster than I have in a long time, I got the cable moved. Now I have a no start problem.

I started with a test light at the ignition switch and got nothing at terminal B (big red wire). Also got nothing at the S terminal with the key turned the start position.

In the engine compartment, I got nothing at terminal C of the slave solenoid with the key in the start position. I also have no electricity to terminal A of the slave solenoid. Shouldn't terminal A of the slave solenoid be hot all the time?

The blower and bilge work, but none of the dash gauges work. Neither does the radio.

BTW, the 50 amp breaker in pushed in. The 35 amp fuse in line from the battery is good. I have electricity to from the battery to the starter solenoid.

So, what did I possibly short? And, where else can I start looking?

Thank You,

Bryan

Pushing in on a circuit breaker that isn't tripped, will not give you power.
Your problem is simple. There is a square fuse on the main battery lug on the starter solenoid. It's blown. Replace it and you will have power again. It's 110A, and installed there to prevent damage from accidents like you had.
