I had my boat serviced prior to putting her away for the winter.I have not been out on the lake yet.The problem is when trying to start with the muffs it will drain 2 new batteries trying to start when it finally starts runs smooth temps ok shut it off wait 2 minutes starts right up 1st turn. The problem is if I leave it overnight same no start next day. What could this be?

Did you tune it up this spring?
Did you check to see if the choke is working?
Also check to see if the accelerator pump is actually pumping fuel into the engine.

Have someone hold the choke closed while u try to start it. If it fires right up, there's your problem.

Best you hold the choke, and have someone else crank it, that way when/if it backfires it's the hair on your hand and arm that gets burned off. And keep your head and face out from over the carb while cranking......Trust me.

The hair on my arm has about grown back from the last time I did that.

Hey Star, how far from Kingston are you? That's beautiful country. I try to make it to Kingston & Gananoque {sp} at least a couple times each summer. The St Lawrence River is heaven with a view.

Are you giving it gas in neutral? When cold you have to give it gas and rev it high in neutral.

it will drain 2 new batteries trying to start when it finally starts runs smooth temps ok

Fixing the auto-choke will be simpler, easier, and a cheaper thing to do, rather than a new starter. :)

Re: starting problem when cold

is there a good picture of how the choke should look. I removed my engine and fixed an engine leak (the thrust button over the second cam shaft came off)and until now I couldn't figure out why it would idle while it idled before I removed the engine. i now know that the choke plate is always up and down. how do i know what it is supposed to look like. if someone could help me I would appreciate it. Thanks
Brent Chalmers

Brent,
You need to start a new post if you expect to get any answers at all.

just a quick answer to the choke thing.. it does what its name implies.. it chokes or srangles the carb air intake.. in doing so it enriches the mixture for cold starting..

its a big flap at the top of the carb.. i aint gonna say any more except it should be obvious when its on or off.. once u know what it does and how it works.. if its open all the time with a cold engine it aint working.. if its its still closed with a hot engine it aint coming off..

trog100
