Starting Problem

I have a 1995, 40 HP Mercury 4 cylinder w/ tilt. Tilt motor is shorted and blew one of the tilt relays. I replaced the relay and disconnected the tilt motor. Can?t get a spark from the plugs and the kill switch will now let me turn the motor over in the ?off? position. Any ideas?

Look for a 20 amp fuse in one of the red wires coming off the starter solenoid.

I have a Selco Manual for Mercury OutBoards 1900-00. It's gets confusing trying to address all the motors 2.5 to 275 HP. I could not find my exact wiring diagram. Selco says I should have a diode between ignation switch and cut out switch. There was no diode. Checked the 20 amp fuse on the wiring cowl and it was okay. Could not find another fuse. Do I have to go to Merc to get the specfic Manual for my Motor?
