I have a 74 Glastron with the AQ 130 C engine. I noticed that it does not start until I release the key. In other words, you crank for a while and then once you relese the key, it starts. I am also not sure if the alternator is charging because after a few cranks the battery ran down. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Re: Starting problem

You probably have a bad ignition switch. To find out, hook a test light clip to ground and put the point on the + terminal on the coil.
With the key in the run position, the light should be on. Now, turn the key to start. If the light goes out, the switch has lost the contact inside that keeps power to the coil.

Have your battery load tested.

Re: Starting problem

Well when it was fully charged everything worked fine. I believe it was because the battery was so low but I will definately test it with the light. However, I took off the alternator and took it to a repair shop and had it tested. Alternator is bad. I was wondering if a rebuild kit can be purchased? The guy at the rebuild shop said he could rebuild it but instead of 3 terminals it would have 2. Not sure what this means but I would think I need all three terminals. I want to make sure its marine grade.
