I own a 1985 Mariner 150. After trying to start the engine, and turning the key off, the outboard continues trying to start. I disconnected the ignition and this is not the problem. To stop the motor from trying to start and burning up the starter, I disconnected the battery. Does anyone know the problem or approximate cost for a do it yourselfer?

Re: Starting problems

Sounds like the contacts in the starter solinoid switch are stuck. I would need your serial number to tell you which one. But the most expensive aftermarket is 27.00. Look at this chart below and find the 18- number. Carry it to NAPA autoparts store and they can have it the next day.

Solinoid

Thanks Trent. I heard the same thing and was trying to double check.
