I have a 1999 with a mercruiser 5.0L.
Some times when I turn the key (first start)nothing happens. When this does occur, sometimes all I have to do is turn the key switch on and off several times to start it. Other times, it seems like it will start when holding the key on and moving the shifter. BUT MOST OF THE TIME I JUST RETRY THE KEY. (AFTER RUNNING FOR A WHILE IT STARTS FINE)
Any suggestions? Is it the key switch or the nuetral switch in the shifter?
Thank You in advance.
Mike

Re: Starting Problems

I believe you answered your own question when you stated that if you hold the and bump the shifter. I would chase the wires on the shifter before I would do anything else.
