I currently own a 1984 Bayliner with an 85
HP force on it. I was just wondering when starting the engine do I have to pull the power handle out and put for
it in nuetral and give it a little pit of gas to start up or can I just leave it in nuetral and start it up? In other words how would you reccommend starting up the engine when I first put it in the water? As you can see it's my first time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time.

Re: Starting the Engine

Depending upon the condition and/or tune condition of the motor as well as the outside air temp, and how familiar one is with his or her specific engines temperment depicts what steps will be neccessary inorder to get their motor started. A motor in good tune should start with only a minimal of input from the owner. Making sure to prime the engine with fuel via the fuel bulb, perhaps a second or two turning the motor over with the choke on and it should start right up. Placing the throttle into a position other then neutral inorder to get it started usually is a indication that you are dealing with a motor that is out of tune or there may be some other underlying condition that needs to be addressed.
