Hello to all, hope everyone had a good winter. Quick question. Towards the end of last year I began having a problem with starting, and with the tilt/trim. The problems were as follows: Most of the time when I attemted to turn the engine over for the first time, all I got was a "clicking" type of sound. It sounded kind of like when you attempt to start a car engine with an almost dead battery. The thing is, my battery was brand new, so I know it was fully charged. The same thing happened when I tried to tilt the engine out of the water at the end of the day. The advice I got from this forum was to look over all my electrical connection. I did that, even outright replacing many of the larger cables. After an entire inspection all appeared well. All the wires/cables were either brand new or in good shape. After I did that, the problem persisted. Here is my question:- I have one of those "cut-off" swithches with the plastic key, do they go bad? It's the only thing I can think of, and due to its design and position(you obviously cant see the inner working of it) I cant really see if its in good shape. Has anyone else ever experienced a problem with one of these things? Just by the looks of it, it seems that it would retain alot of moisture if water got into it, thereby rotting it. Sorry to be long winded, but its been killing my enjoyment of the boat for a while now.

Hey, PC.

What engine do you have???

Did you REMOVE and CLEAN ALL connections of battery and starter current cables?? "Look over" is not the advice you got. Remove and clean is the advice you got.

Let us know what engine you have so we can put this in the correct outboard trouble forum.

Re: Starting/Tilt-Trim problems.

Hey JB, sorry about the lack of specifics. I have a 2000 Yamaha 130 2 stroke with approx 250 hrs. And I actually did remove, clean, and in some cases replace all cables and connections. The "weakest link" as far as I can tell is that cutoff switch.
