I have an evinrude 70 from 1975. Not sure how long it has been since it was started. If i spray starting fluid into the plugs it will start then run until starting fluid is gone. The three carbs vent are open all the time. When i start engine with spray and mess with the vents it will stay started (then spark plugs get gas). Also there is a switch on throtle and egnition box (where i put key) it says full choke. When i push it up the vents close but.. if i try to hold switch up and start the fuse blows. If i hold switch up to long the fuse blows without me trying to start it. So my question is how to i get vents to cooperate. Since i have no idea what i am talking about can email pictures if anyone wants them. firstimer

I think your 'vents' are the choke plates.

I know using starting fluid is ruining your motor.

Pictures may help, and does your choke solenoid have 2 purple or purple/yellow wires going to it?

DHP

Sorry i have no idea what i am talking about. But you are right about choke plates. The choke solenoid has to purble wires coming from a wireing harnest. It works but i only when i flip the switch. But when i flip the switch and try to start motor it blows the fuse. I can start the motor without the spray and keep it running and even put it to full throtle but... when in neutral if i try to open up the choke plates all the way it dies out. The motor runs great. The choke plates are just not adujusting them selves.
