My 1992, 28 HP Johnson motor had run good prior to installing a different single lever controller. Since then, the motor starts well, but only runs for about 5-7 seconds, apparently on the fuel from the primer. I can extend the short run time by pressing down on the start switch and repriming the motor. This can only be done for a few cycles until the motor ceases to start. I have to wait about an hour before the motor can be restarted.
Any suggestions,
Joe

Try having someone pump the primer and see if it continues to run that way, if so, new fuel primer bulb.

I don't think your problem is related to the new throttle lever. Your desription is that of an engine not getting any fuel. Even if the throttle lever was disconnected it should still run once it fires. You have to find out what is causing the lack fuel. Does the fuel bulb get firm when you pump it prior to starting? If not the problem is in the tank or fuel bulb and line. Is the tank properly vented? Confirm that you are getting gas into the carb bowls. If there is gas in the bowl and it won't run more than a few seconds, the float valve may be stuck closed. I think you are going to find that the problem is in the carbs and you are going to have to pull it and do a thorough rebuild.

I would suggest making sure there are no kinks in the primer bulb hose also check you exisitng hose for solid lumps. Make sure ther is no air in the line. also make sure there is a tight free flowing connection.

Hope this helps.
