Hello everyone!! I'm new to this site and have found some valuable info here. There's a ton more infomation here than the other site I've used. I have a 1998 Seaswirl Striper 5.7L GSI I/O.
Recently, I had a maintenance done on the boat which included new manifolds, risers, plugs, impellor, and distributor. I started the boat and let it idle for about 10 mins until it warmed up and proceeded to drive out of the marina. I noticed that the temp. was movin above 170 and hitting 200. I revved the engine and the temp dropped back down to normal without ever overheating again. Took the boat to about 30 mph for about 4 mins and the boat shuts down. It would crank but wont start. Took it back to the mechanics and was told that the manifold was a defect and allowed water into the port side cylinders. He pulled the plugs and they were wet. Got that fixed and the boat ran without any problems for for one outting. Then it happened again. The boat fired up and stalls after 5 mins running at 30 mph. It would crank but wont start. Then it'll start right up the next day. It did this another time and fires up the next day. We have a little leak from our livewell that drips onto the backside of the engine, but it doesnt get into the distributor. It's just wierd that it'll fire up the next day with no problems. Seems like something dries and then it fires up or something cools down and then it fires up.
I have done some research on this site and have checked for fuel, and spark from the ignition coil. There's spark and fuel. Could it be the ignition module? How can I check to see if it works properly? Could it be possible that water dripped onto the ignition coil? Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!
