I have a 60hp Mariner that starts right up when running on the hose but at the launch I fight with it. Spark plugs have been changed, does this sound like a fuel issue? Should I start with the carbs?

is your 60 a 2 cyl or 3 cyl? I'm having the some what of the same issue with my 2 cyl 60. Anybody have a manual that will give us an idea on where to start with idle screw settings?

On muffs there is no back pressure on the exhaust. In water there is back pressure. That usually happens when an outboard has been link 'n' synched on muffs. Try a link 'n' synch in the water.

Generally start with the idle mixture screws at 1 1/2 turns out from LIGHTLY seated. This should give enough fuel to get started and in gear on the water. From there idle mixture must be perfected, IN Forward gear IN the water adjust each carb to obtain the very 'Best Idle Speed'. Make very small adjustments and one carb at a time give sufficient time between changes for the motor to burn off any accumulated fuel.

Once at Best Idle the motor demands even more idle fuel to provide the additional fuel necessary for crisp acceleration. You may end up slightly more than 1/8 turn out from Best Idle. Here again, make very small incremental changes just about the width of the screwdriver bladeslot, testing acceleration frequently. If any bog, lean miss, or hesitation in the slightest, the motor needs even more idle fuel. make another slight change and retest. Repeat to perfection.
