I have a 95 Merc 25hp outboard. I purchased it from a friend who always took good care of it. I dumped the old fuel which had Stabil in it and flushed out the tank. It had a lot of black gunk in the fuel. I even pulled the filter and pumped some fuel through it to make sure it was getting in. It was.
It wouldn't start for me and appeared to be starving for fuel. I rebuilt the carb and fuel pump. I even cleaned out the tank and repaired the fuel pickup. I replaced the fuel connector at the motor. The primer bulb and hose appear fine. The filter and bowl were cleaned numerous times.
I got it running eventually and had it out twice and it ran pretty good; starts right up.... UNTIL yesterday. Put it in the water and it wouldn't start. I am not getting fuel to the motor again and the primer bulb stays collapsed after squeezing it, so I went out and bought a brand new tank, flushed out the hose and connections... it will start now but only when I keep priming it. When I stop priming it, it'll stall.
Any ideas?
