Stator for gamefisher

Hi again, I have all new troubles with my 1975 15hp gamefisher (model# 217.58632). The motor looks great, has gas to carb, but absolutly no spark to either cylinder. The last time it was run (2 years ago) it ran great! I'm guessing my trouble is the stator? I have ordered a manual, but am looking for advice. If I need a new stator, how much will a new one cost, where can I get one, and most importantly, how difficult will it be to instali. Thanks in advance for any and ALL help.

Hi Don,
Are you sure of that model #? I tried it on the Sears parts site and couldn't get a match.
What causes you to guess it's the stator? Check the kill switch first.
Backlash

Re: Stator for gamefisher

You are right about the model number, I missed a 0. It should be 217586320. I have tried to start the engine with the kill switch unhooked. I believe that should eliminate the switch. Please let me know if that is not correct. I guess I have tried everything else I know of to eliminate other options. If anyone has suggestions, jump right in!! Or other ideas as to what could be wrong. Thanks for the help!!!

Dan

Don,
I have that model number as a 1977 15HP made by Eska. Were the wires disconnected from the kill switch when you tested it? For a parts list and schematic go to http://home.earthlink.net/~brixent/
Backlash

Re: Stator for gamefisher

That model # should be about right I was told 75 from Eska, probably no difference anyway. As far as the kill switch, we tried starting with wires attached and un-attached. We also tried with one wire on at a time. With those test I figured (maybe not correctly) that the kill switch was not the problem. The KS may still not work, but I think that in one of the above tests it should have been by-passed. If that isn't correct please let me know. If it is corrrect, any thoughts on the stator issue. I'm pretty desperate. The motor is probably not worth investing $300-$400 in. Well, let me know what you think, and thanks for the help! Dan

I believe you've proven the kill switch isn't the problem. I'd do a continuity test on the coils before doing anything else. If the coils test out good (they probably wouldn't both go out at once), then you've probably got more cost involved than the motor is worth. Did you take a look at that website? Good luck.
Backlash

Re: Stator for gamefisher

I have a friend that can help with the coils. That was my next step. My manual for the motor has fallen through, I hope I can get my money back!! Anyway, with out a manual I can't figure out how to install a new stator. To be honest, not sure I will. But does anybody know how difficult it is to put a new stator in?! I'm still trying to get an actual price quote, just in case. Thanks for the help. Dan

I don't have a manual for that engine but it shouldn't be too difficult. Pull the flywheel and take a look. I think you'll find a solid state ignition system under there and a pretty pricey fix if you can get the parts.
Backlash

Re: Stator for gamefisher

I checked the Brix parts site. If they had one it would be $130, not to bad, but listed as not available. I'm starting to think that the only option is a different motor. If anyone knows where to get a stator for this gamefisher let me know. Anyway, thanks a bunch Backlash, I appreciate the help. Dan

Re: Stator for gamefisher

According to their (WWW.rapair.com) tech dept they will only look at my motor if I ship it to them. I guess it's to old or something. They also couldn't tell me if they had the parts or not?? If anyone has more ideas let me know. Thanks!!!
