Stator Issues

I have a 2005 mercury 90hp 2 stroke, I'm having an issue with the motor restarting after the motor is warm..I would stop and fish for about 20 mins, and when I try to restart it takes a while to get it started, but she will start. I was thinking of checking the stator. But the motor is still firing,,, however, I was thinking that once the motor got warm, the spark got week (or no spark at all) causing the motor not to start. When I looked at the stator it seemed ok from what I could see. But the wiring felt like spaghetti, its like there's no wiring in the jackets. The stator has 4 wires along with the switch box. it is wired as follows:

Stator Switch Box
Black to Black
Purple to Gray
Light Brown to White
Dark brown to Dark Brown

I tried to tested the resistance with my multimeter 200ohm..... the black from the stator to each of the 3 wires of the staor and I got nothing, if I did it right... The motor still starts and runs but that is this only problem I have with the motor..Does anyone know if I checked the stator correctly or why the wires are like spaghetti.

Thank's

i'm a rookie here so take this with a grain of salt. the correct way to check a stator is with a DVA adapter so you can read the voltage with a standard meter, it bounces around to much to get an accurate reading otherwise.

i think the first thing to do would be to make sure all the connections are tight and clean, mainly the grounds. but if it still runs it's probably not your stator. i would think a fuel issue would be the go to, maybe a bad check valve? check your fuel filter also.

I thought of that as well, and I should have said this in the first post. But I rebuilt the fuel pump, changed the plugs, all the coils packs, thermostat, checked all the wiring more then I can count, all the fuel lines, fuel filter, rebuilt the carbs several times and decarb'ed the cylinders. The only items I didn't replace (besides rebuilding the motor) was the stator, trigger and switch box. And I didn't change them because the motor was running and firing..However, I learned recently, that the stator has 3 different sides to it. If one of the sides fail, the stator would have to be replaced.

That the trigger colors you posted..stator will have 2 yellows and a grn and grn with wht tracer. Your motor has CDM modules no switchbox. Replace the fuel pump diaphragm first.

You are so right, I have
2 yellows
1 white
2 green with white strip
White with green strip

Black
And Brown

Does anyone know how to test the stator, or the trigger

Go over on Amazon and order you a ohm/volt meter and a DVA adapter...

I dont know if it's my stator. Because I was fooling around with it yesterday and I had mentioned before that when I turn the key the needle would jump. Now that i was playing with it, i notice now that when I turn the motor over, the needle now goes to 5000 rpm's. But once the motor is started, the needle drops back down to zero. Makes no since...i was thinking last night could this be a bad or weak ground.
