Hello Guys I am hoping that yall can help me with this. I know that you can, who am I kidding. I have a 89 Force 125. While coming in from a good day of fishing here in northeast FL. I was in a no wake zone and idling by some boats that my sone wanted to see and the engine died and would not restart. We got towed back by a little jon boat with a 9.9hp. Talk about the talk of the ramp. We got it loaded and back home. I worked on it and thought that it was a fuel problem so after tweaking it for a bit, I got it going, not perfect but running. Took it out to test and further tweak it and could not even get up on plane. sounded and acted like it was running on two cylinders.
Got it home, and tested the spark. No spark in cyl 1 and cyl 2. I tested the packs per the trouble shooting guide at CDI electronics' website. The resistance checked out and then I swaped the blue and yellow wire from the stator to the bus bar. Cranked the engine and got spark in cyl 1 and cyl 2 but not 3 or 4. So by swaping the leads leads me to believe that since the problem followed the swap that the problem is in the stator.
Put in another stator that I had in the garage from a parts motor and came up with the same problem. Is it possible that the stators has the same problems.
Here is what I need help with

1. Part number for the stator. The numbers on the stator that I have are FCC3007L 3792 (but do not cross with anything I have found).

2. How does one test the stator and see if it is good?

3. What else could cause these symptoms?

Thanks for all the help and look forward to hearing from yall soon.

CDI 176-3095 Stator
is the I-Boats number.

The CDI website may have a proceedure for checking the stator, also your manual.
My manual shows 7.0 amp out put and .5 to 1.0 resistance.

Did you test the trigger?

Thats about all the knowledge I have.

Good Luck.

Re: Stator or Pack

Ok here is an update. I did some probing of my own and found out that the stators that I has were both bad. Go figure. I went and got a new one, well new to me but it is used. I did a resistance check and it checked out. It even came with a warrenty. Got it home and put it on. Cranked her up and she ran.
Now for the not so good news. She is now running smooth as she was before. I checked the spark and I have spark in all cylinders. She is getting fuel but something is not right. When I take out 1 and 2 spark plugs they are dry but have carbon on them. So I know they are firing. But when taking out 3 and 4 they are wet with fuel and oil. What could be causing this. it sounds that it is hesitating when it is running.
Please help and thank you in advance.

Take care when seating the air/fuel mixture screw. As the mixture screw is easily damaged if screwed in all the way to fully seated using anything but the lightest of pressure once it is screwed in all the way.

You might also want to go thru and check the electrical connections on both the trigger terminal block as well as the harness block on the opposite side of the motor. I would also check for poor connections such as the CDI pack grounds and connectiond, especially the ground connections for the coils also. If you check the coils be sure to take a look at the inside of the spark plug boots to look for rust on the plug connector inside the boot.

The Prestolite ignition systems are notorious for poor performance should any of the electrical connections be in poor condition. The OEM packs also have a tendency to blow with bad connections. However, that said, the after market CDI packs from CDI can give you years of trouble free service as long as you keep things in good order.
