I have a 1994 Mariner 40hp 4-cly 2-stroke Mod. #7040412CD Ser#0G048873. Engine has no fire all 4-cly. Local mercury dealer said bad stator and need kit# 398-832075A9. I have black 9amp stator but have a voltage regulator, again according to dealer. Part is backordered.

Found Mercury dealer 3 hours away that had one that was installed as a test and then taken back off. The red stator in the box is marked 398-832074A3, module marked 834949A3, a 3" blue wire and some tie straps and plastic nuts. Black marker on the stator says 40hp 2cly mariner no elect. What I need to know is this the correct stator part and all the parts for the 398-832075A9 kit? Is there a site where I can get a break down of the part numbers in this kit?

Thanks for any help
Mike

Re: Stator part number

There are two red stators with the 398-832075 number the A13 &14 are the 9amp stators that use a rectifier and A3 5 6 9 12 that are 16 amp that use a voltage regulator both are available from Rapair/CDI electronics they are a much better quality staror than the Mercury stator, do yourself a favor and buy one of them

Re: Stator part number

If you want to try the unit that was tried before, the only way I see it is to tow the boat 3 hrs and have them SHOW that it works.

Re: Stator part number

Update/Results--- I called Mercury direct and they were able to give me the part numbers that make up the kit. Parts in the box were not the parts for the kit.

I ordered and installed the Rapair/CDI replacement for the black stator using the stator number stamped on the old one. Engine starts and runs better than before.

Thanks for all the help
