1985 Merc 150hp XR2

Got my flywheel puller from Ebay and rigged up a strap from an old seat belt, took off the nut, screwed in the puller, tightend her down and off came the flywheel. Gee,that seemed easy. Thank goodness, didn't know what to expect. Anyways, about to install new stator from CDI. Am I correct in thinking that the position of the stator is of no particular importance? As long as the wires reach the switchboxes and it's tightened down properly, I should be good to go. Is this right? Thanks, once again.

Dave..

Re: Stator Position

The only thing the manual sez is to make note of the wire path and route the new wires exactly the same. I think you need to be careful because when I replaced my switchbox with a CDI, the wires were not the same length as the Merc ones. I'd draw a picture on the routing before removal.
Jerry

Re: Stator Position

Thanks Jerry

I will note the position of the wires on the old stator as I remove it. Hopefully, this will solve my problem. Keep fingers crossed.

Dave..

Re: Stator Position

Laotzu, there are no wires that come with a switchbox.. Except the ground lead...

Re: Stator Position

KC, maybe it depends on the motor. My '91 50hp switchbox has all the wires to connect to the leads from the stator, trigger, etc. Same as the original I replaced.

Jerry
