I love the first time you take the boat out each year....you find out what all broke over the winter.

I have a 1987 125hp Force
Brand new battery. Ran the boat wide open for about 3 or 4 minutes and it started cutting out (i thought it was starving for gas, or had bad gas). Backed off to half throttle and it ran fine. The we idled around for about 30 minutes and the engine started coughing and died. When I tried to re-start it, the battery was dead.

I did notice the volt meter only showing about 9.5 to 10 volts. Is this likely a stator problem. I've seen on here that Force is notable for eating stators.

Thanks for all your help!!

one other ? I noticed today a wire going into the end of the block (just above the thermostat) the plastic on the end was melted and brittle. Is this the heat indicator? My temp. gauge hasn't worked in a couple of years.

Re: Stator problem....maybe?

Could very well be the stator, or just a bad or broken connection.
Retrace all the wires looking for damage.
