On a Mercury 8 HP 2 cycle outboard motor what does it mean if the stator resistence reading is perfect but the AC voltage which should be at least 150 Volts is only .5Volts?

bad stator - resistance readings are just a quick test that may or may not shed any light on the problem .

If the ignition module is separate from the stator, unplug the module and re-test the stator. An internally shorted module can skew a stator voltage test.

Hopefully you are using a DVA meter or DVA Adaptor for your VOM.
