'78 Merc 800 80hp. Excellent compression, decarbed, linked and sync'd, runs like a scalded dog at high speed. Crappy hole shot. Tried to adjust idle mixture out 1/4 turn for better hole shot and it dropped the idle to where it won't idle in gear. So, I got out he multimeter to test the trigger and stator. Well, the stator high speed leads (red to red/white) were 56 ohms (in spec), yet the low speed leads (blue to blue/white) went off the scale of my multimeter (spec is 5.7-8.0K ohms) which tops out at 100K ohms.
On one hand, this would seem to explain my low speed to high speed issue (rush of gas and air blowing out a weak spark). On the other hand, between roughly 20x over the allowable resistance, I can hardly believe it runs at all!! Does this all seem about right? Or am I missing something real obvious (forest for the trees type thing)?
