Hello,

I have a 1990 40HP Mercury outboard that I need to replace the stator on.
Does anyone know where I can find this part online and where it's reasonably priced? The next question I have is how hard of a job is it to replace one of these. I have never done this before. Although I do have the manual and can follow it. Is this something for a professional to do or can a non outboard mechanic tackle this kind of job. Please help.

Thanks,

Wayne

Re: stator replacement for a 40hp merc

Not a tough job IF you have the correct flywheel puller

DO NOT repeat DO NOT USE A THREE JAW PULLER
Unless you want to put a NEW flywheel on top of your new stator!

Have you proved the stator bad with a DVA meter?
Do not assume it is bad until you prove it bad.

I need your complete model and serial to look up parts

CDI makes replacement stators for most o/b's
