1993 oceanpro 200:
just bought the motor and trying to get it to fire up.
#5 has no spark and hasn't even attempted to even sputter sputter cranking.
kill and shift test - check
trigger ohm test - check
power pack ohm test - check
new plugs and coil test - check
new fuel and good battery -check
Only thing so far coming under spec is stator.
801 and 803 ...spec is 850-1100
DVA test while cranking was 148 and 153..spec is 150 volts.
is my stator numbers enough to cause a no start as why am I getting no spark to #5?
I did buy a new inline spark checker. When the bulb flashes it doesn't seem particularly bright

Pro-style spark tester to check all six at once would be nice, but expensive. Get an adjustable open air tester, and measure spark on each ($10-$15). Maybe issues with more than one.

[ed. cranking speed 200-250rpm?]

No, that small difference in spec will not cause your issue. Your stator voltages are OK, too.

#5 is dead? Look at the green wire in the stbd connector from timerbase to pack. Make sure it is not accidentally grounded (pinched) on a mounting stud, and make sure the pins are not pushed back in the connector and electrically open.
Look for possible corrosion, etc. The green wire is the trigger for #5 on the stbd side. On port side the green wire is for #6.

If all looks good there, possible bad timer base.

Also, make sure you have all plugs removed so you can get the fastest spin speed for the spark test.

One more thing...LOL...It is possible that while Quick Start is active, a cyl can be dead, and when engine starts, and the instant that QS disengages, the cyl will start to spark. I have seen it twice, once on #1 and once on #2. When you are doing the spark test...QS is active. So consider that. In both cases it was the timerbase, NOT the pack.

How did you test the coils? Ohm check. Wouldn't hurt trying swapping the dead cylinder coil with another just to confirm and then try cranking over.

I swapped #3 and #5 coils with some result. I did simple ohm resistance test. Since I posted my first post the motor did start and run :). I did not recheck #5 because it's late. I will follow up.
to check Peak voltage on trigger base, do I probe the same wire colors as ohm test... only while cranking?

Check it running , not cranking as slow cranking can cause ghost problems on these models.
