Stator Sticky Stuff

I have brown sticky stuff dripping from the stator on to the top of the block. (back only)
Is this a sign of overheating or just an old stator? Is there anything I can do to stop it? It seems to function fine.
Thanks

Its an indication of your stator on its way out. You can't fix it to my knowledge.

'73s did that. You are lucky you got so many years out of it. Replace stator. New ones are better.

Does the entire ring assembly need to be replaced or can just the leaking module be replaced?
Thanks

The replacement of the entire unit is required.

I will need one. The one I have functions fine and I wouldn't have known there was problem until I pulled the flywheel. Are the used ones the same age and likely to have the same problem? (Spending a couple hundred on a new one doesn't thrill me either!)
Thanks
