I replaced my stator, rectifier and a power pack. engine seemed to be running fine but after running the engine even for a short while my battery dies, stiff as a boot dead. at first i thought the battery was old but this has happend several time to different batteries. i have now switched the two wires from the stator going to the panel. i am going to run it again and will use a volt meter to see if it is chargeng. The guy who lent me the volt meter said it should read about 13 volts when it is running. Is that true? Could I have done damage to the stator if the wires were on incorrectly. it seems to run smoother since i swithced the wires, or maybe just my imagination. i was going to swith the wires back to the other way just to see it it is draing the battery, but wanted to make sure i would not be damaging anything .

Yo Craba,
Since that's ac voltage coming from the stator, it really shouldn't matter how you hooked the wires up to the rectifier just so neither one goes to the red wire and yes, there should be at least 13 volts at the battery with the engine spinning about 2K.

c/6

Hooty

the instrucitons with the rectifier said the wires did not matter they were interchangable. but the 2 wires from the stator had different coloring, so i thought that their location may make a difference. if they were incorrectly connected would one way suck power from the battery and the other add it? i guess i will know when i check it with the voit meter.

Ya probably have a yellow and a yellow and gray wire coming from the stator and they are interchangeable on the rectifier. Check the dc voltage at the battery with the engine turning about 2000rpm. It should read at least 13vdc. If not, either the stator or rectifier is bad. Did you hook the battery up backwards? Did you run the engine without a battery? If you did either one of these, you need to replace the rectifier again.

c/6

Hooty

i checked the battery with wires from statorset for both ways one way read 13 volts the other 12 1/2. the 13 was the origial way the wires were set. i think maybe the other batteries were just old. i left the wires set the way the read 13 volts. thanks for the help hooty.
