Re: Stats Question

Take them out and look at the end opposite of the spring end. That is where the valve closes. If there is a gap opened up it is stuck open. kinda hard to explain. if you are still not sure of what i am saying put the end of the stat opposite of the spring around your lips and blow if you can blow air in it is stuck open. If you cant it is in the closed position.

Re: Stats Question

A neat trick, put a pot of water on the stove and heat it to about 150 degrees or more. Then throw in your tstats and you will get an idea of just how they work.

Re: Stats Question

If you can hold your fingers on top of the cylinder heads for more than 3 seconds, your thermostats are not warming the motor up enough. Most engines should idle at 124-145 degrees.

Re: Stats Question

Ok no need to do the melt stick... I started her up on the muffs. ran for 20 minutes.. If I had a stick of butter I think I would have had a hard time melting it. I not going with stats stuck open, im going with no stats at all.

Engine starts up hard..(cold) spits and misses for the first minute or so.. then levels off and runs smooth, still need to go over link and sink, plugs new as of now..

Will remove the stat housing and have a look see.

IBB

Re: Stats Question

I had the same problem, replace the stats. you will get better gas mileage and the motor will run better. Also it will not carb up as bad since it is at the correct operating tempature. Your plugs will thank you later.
